Texas country, jazz and false metal – Oh my!

September 22nd, 2016 • Posted By: buzz • Make A Comment

There’s a pretty interesting week of music ahead and we wanted to draw your attention to it. Meet your friends downtown to catch your favorite Texas country artist or try something totally new and take in a chamber ensemble from Dublin.

Walt Wilkins – Waco Hippodrome, 7 p.m. A Texas son who has returned home, Wilkins, a consummate songwriter, wrote and co-wrote a number of Pat Green’s early songs. It’s kind of fun to have them both downtown at different venues on the same night. Check out the two together here.

Pat Green – The Backyard, 8 p.m. Do we really even have to tell you who Pat Green is? Go see him. Have a beer. It’ll be fun.

The Angelus – TRUELOVE, 10 p.m. The Angelus facebook page calls their music “False Metal/ Hymnal Slowcore/ Enchanted Rock / Gothspell Muthic.” We would say it’s something that simply has to be heard live to determine. Leave it to TRUELOVE to always stretch our musical horizons!

Byron Swann Trio – Klassy Glass, 8 p.m.

Dirty Echoes – Waco Hippodrome, 7 p.m. A little rock on the Hippodrome patio
Dave Wild duo – Klassy Glass, 7 p.m. The jazz man about downtown, Dave Wild, is always a good bet.

Trio Festivale – Roxy Grove Hall, 624 Speight, 3 p.m. Really, really, really lovely International chamber ensemble. But don’t take our word for it, watch this

Vocal Faculty Cabaret – Roxy Grove Hall / 624 Speight, 5:30 p.m. Who doesn’t like a cabaret vibe? Expect favorites like La vie en rose, Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered and You Can’t Take That Away From Me.
